The Greenway Walk – so worth the effort

The Greenway Walk from Colonno (bus C10 will get you there) to Griante leads you up and down the hills with every twist and turn showing you a new view of the lake and each spectacle is more magnificent than the last. Just follow the signs for ‘Greenway del Lago’; sometimes traditional brown and some yellow and blue signposts, as well as circular metal

embedded in the ground. The walk can be divided up into five stages: 1st Colonno to Sala Comacina; 2nd Sala Comacina to Ossuccio; 3rd Ossuccio to the Lenno ferry terminal; 4th Lenno – Bolvedro/Tremezzo and 5th Bolvedro – Cadenabbia.

The Greenway Walk follows the original path of the Antica Strada Regina, the ancient Roman road. The walk takes you through the villages of Sala Comacina, Ossucio, Lenno and Mezzegra and the 10.5 kilometer hike will probably take you all morning (about 3 and a half hours), but it is great exercise and the breathtaking panoramic views make it so worth the effort. The route is safe and the terrain is very manageable for the average person; even fit children would probably enjoy it. Just wear sensible shoes and comfortable clothing.
